Let me describe to you the encounter that just occurred with an older coworker of mine. I was heading to the kitchen and she passes me in the hallway. I casually smile at her. She smiles back.
As we pass each other, she asks, "How are you doing, Katie?"
I keep smiling and walking. "Just having a heart attack," I say matter-of-factly.
I hear a happy-go-lucky "That's nice" from the distance.
Wait. What? What if I actually was having a heart attack?
Am I really that dramatic? (yes)
Is 'the boy who cried wolf' fable going to happen to me just like I always knew it would?! I mean, my parents only reminded me about that story every day of my childhood.
Ahh, shortness of breath and chest pain at 24. Everything seems to be going to plan.
Alright, so I gotta make this quick because I have a lot of work to finish and I need to relax my heart before happy hour. Seriously.

This barrette is from one of my favorite French couture shops, Staples (pronounced stoo-plays). While it looks ravishing worn in human hair, I love that it's also multi-functional: horses can wear it, you can wear it as a brooch clipped on to your evening gown, or even a playful clip to dress up your shoelaces! I wore mine on a humid spring day and it kept my neck very cool--but I also received so many compliments on its chicness--even at the gym!
These ornate barrettes come in interesting colors, such as sewer, olive and grease.
